Introducing Main Task

Planning- Introducing Main Task

The OCR specification listed a wide variety of choice for our A2 coursework, from making a music video to a newspaper; visual and physical options. For this piece of coursework I have chosen to create a music video, supporting this idea by also creating an album cover and magazine advertisement.
Last year for my AS coursework I was working with another person, while this year I have decide to work by myself. I chose this path for myself as I felt that last year I could have improved more if I had worked individually, as there would have been more one on one lessons with my teacher rather than figuring things out with my partner and only relying on each other. By working with myself this year, I can develop my organisational skills and independence off from what I learned last year. Having a partner for my AS coursework pushed me to increase my organisational skills as not only did I have to figure out times and dates for myself and my partner to meet up, but also for the person we were filming with, which only created a small and specific amount of time we could ever film between.

Last year for my AS coursework I filmed a two minute opening to my film, I didn't want to carry out with that idea and I have chosen (mentioned above) to film for a music video. I chose this medium because I can personally relate more to a music video than a short film or two minute opening to a film. When choosing the music to film for I had to keep multiple things in mind; how many people I would want to film with/ who is more possibly available to feature in whatever I film, will it follow a linear story line? I did some research and watched allot of music videos with ranging genres to see how the artists interpreted their own music and how they wanted tot portray it. The content varied from showing a linear story, some featuring and others not the artist, just being a dance video and others featuring allot of metaphorical meanings.
With multiple different influencers I began to get an idea for what content I might want to feature in my future music video. With music the meaning can be interpreted in different ways, while with a film it is very structural and 'one routed'.

From last years final product I have improved my editing and filming skills I did this by filming and organizing extra trips with my family to London, parties and skate parks. Alongside this  I used online footage, such as dance choreography's and other clips used in non copy-written music videos, to practice my editing by make my own music videos through the editing platfrom 'Premiere'.
Unlike last year, I am using two cameras to film any footage, this not only helps me in collecting more footage but enables me to save time and practicality.

Ancillary 1- Digipak Design

I have chosen to create an Album Cover for my first ancillary because it will allow me to create a 'face' for my music video. With album covers an artist is able to create a unique piece that will cover the whole meaning of their album, or of something that represents themselves. Examples of this is  Beyonce's most recent album release, only consisting of a side angle of Beyonce looking down, her face masked by her arm with the title 'Lemonade' overlapped on top, while The Weeknd for his album 'Starboy' uses bold contrasting graffiti colours (red, blue, yellow and black) which are also colours that follow him throughout his music videos for this album, creating an on-going theme for him.

Ancillary 2- Poster Advertisement for the Digipak

I want to design a Magazine Advertisement for my music video because it will help to develop my skills in designing. One of my other A-Levels is Art, and for work experience I have designed three prototype websites for the fashion company which went really successfully. Like the Album Cover, designing a magazine advertisement for the album will allow me to present the way I want to portray the album/ song to the public.
To design a layout and look for the final product I need to start planning for all of the content in the actual music video so that I can decide on colours and themes that will be used for the magazine advertisement as it would have to be a running theme throughout the music video/ album.
